Our La Fausto Coppi Gran Fondo & Piedmont cycling tour delivered some of the best riding and gastronomic experiences in this beautiful, yet relatively unknown region of Italy.
Enjoy our photo essay from 9 days of challenging rides through hilltop towns, culminating in the amazing Gran Fondo in the alps, and the sensational reward of a world class cuisine and some of the best wine in Italy.
A short and sharp 18% pinch on our way to Serralunga d’Alba, the heart of Barolo wine country.
The superb backdrop of the Alps from our hilltop home.
Wine tastings in Piedmont…. pre dinner, during dinner and sometimes a little after dinner.
The dish of the tour, “Gnocchi with rabbit and peas”, buonissimo!
Buying supplies after our wonderful chocolate and liquor tasting. The Baci di Cherasco using local, roasted hazelnuts and mixed with bitter chocolate and vanilla, were exquisite.
Riding through the stunning vineyards of Barolo, Dolcetto & Barbarisco during the day and drinking them by night…. a perfect balance.
In season. Stuffed zucchini flowers on a bed of locally grown, summer vegetables.
Making Ravioli del Plin, the iconic dish from Piedmont, at our cooking class with Raffaelle. This traditional pasta gets its name from the regional dialect for “pinch,” which is how you make it. Simple and delicious!
Just another magical day exploring the quiet backroads of Piedmont; hazelnut groves to the left, vineyards to the right and the bosco (forest) in the distance.
Our non riding partners brought home the prize after their truffle hunt in Alba. An amazing experience of learning about the relationship between the trifolaio (truffle hunter) and his dog, and seeing it all in action.
Dining in. Home made Tarjarin con tartufo. This traditional Piemontese fine egg noodle pasta with truffle was a major hit….particularly when enjoyed with a glass of Barolo.
Rolling along the valley floor as we transfer from Le Langhe to Cuneo…. just another great day in the countryside under the Italian sun.
This dessert of Coconut Semifreddo with ananas and amaretti crumble was simply amazing.
Up close and personal with the famed nebbiolo grapes as we walk through the magnificent Le Langhe vineyards on our way to the town of Barolo.
The 2nd last corner of the ascent up the beautiful 22km climb of Colle Fauniera.
The point where the mountain opens up after our first rest stop on the La Fausto Coppi Gran Fondo.
If you’re looking for an amazing cycling holiday in Italy, add Piedmont to the list. With quiet country roads and a phenomenal food and wine culture, this relatively unknown region is soon to be a discovered gem for riders and non riders alike.
